Q: When and where is the 5th Annual Lown Institute Conference?
A: The 5th Annual Lown Institute Conference will be held from Friday, May 5, through Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Boston Marriott Quincy.

Q: Where can I register for the conference?
A: Check back soon for registration.

Q: Who should attend this conference?
A: Clinicians, medical students, nursing students, patients, community organizers, and  policymakers. If you believe transformation is needed in today’s health care system, then attend this conference to be part of the change.

Q: What’s the difference between the Call for Research Abstracts and Call for Workshops?
A: The Call for Research Abstracts provides an opportunity to present and share original data that address key aspects of right care, while the Call for Workshops is intended to train and equip conference participants with concrete skills they can utilize in their practice or community.

If accepted, abstracts will be presented at the Research Symposium on Friday, May 5, in the form of an oral presentation, poster presentation, and/or in an abstract slam.

If accepted, workshops will be offered on Saturday, May 6 in a 45-90 minutes session that  typically includes a mix of presentations, panel discussions, and discussion with participants.

 

Call for Research Abstracts

The Lown Institute will host its 2nd Annual Research Symposium on Friday, May 5. We will highlight research that enhances our understanding of these issues.

Q: When is the deadline to submit an abstract?
A: The deadline to submit an abstract is December 18, 2016.

Q: Where can I submit my abstract?
A: Please submit your abstract by December 18, 2016 via this page.

Q: Can I submit a vignette or case report for my abstract?
A: No, all abstract submissions must be research-based.

Q: What should be included in my abstract submission?
A: Abstracts should include an Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, and are limited to no more than 300 words and one Figure or Table.

Q: When will abstract presentations take place at the conference?
A: Presentations will take place at the Research Symposium on Friday, May 5, 2017 of the conference.

Q: If I submit an abstract, can I also submit a workshop proposal?
A: Of course! We encourage participants to submit both if they can. Please keep in mind that abstracts and workshops are not the same. Please read both instructions carefully before submitting.

Q: If my abstract is accepted, will my expenses to the conference be covered?
A: No, all abstract presenters must be responsible for covering their own travel and registration costs.

Q: What are the presentation formats?
A: There are three presentation formats: oral, abstract slam, and poster. The Research Symposium Chairs will decide what format the abstract will be presented in, if accepted.

Q: When will I be notified about my abstract decision?
A: You will be notified by January 20, 2017 of the reviewers’ decision.

Call for Workshops

Workshops will equip participants with skills, tools and knowledge addressing aspects of right care that they can utilize in their practice or community. They will focus on novel ideas for advancing right care, changing the culture and habits of overuse in clinical settings, and engaging communities to advocate and promote right care where they live, work, and play. Workshops will be held Saturday afternoon, May 6.

A: The deadline to submit a proposal is December 18, 2016.

Q: When will the workshops take place?
A: All workshops will take place on Saturday afternoon, May 6, 2017.

Q: If I submit a workshop proposal, can I also submit an abstract?
A: Yes, we encourage participants to submit both if they can.

Q: If my workshop proposal is accepted, will my expenses to the conference be reimbursed? ?
