Director of Policy and Advocacy, Every Mother Counts
Nan Strauss, JD, is the Director of Policy and Advocacy for Every Mother Counts. She previously worked at Choices in Childbirth, where she advocated for policies and programs that expand access to evidence-based, respectful care practices for all members of the community.
Previously, Strauss served as the Director of Maternal Health Research and Policy with Amnesty International USA, where she worked on issues related to maternal health and the right to health. She was the lead researcher and co-author of the groundbreaking report, Deadly Delivery: The Maternal Health Care Crisis in the USA.
Prior to joining Amnesty, Strauss was a staff attorney at the Center for Reproductive Rights where she litigated cases in federal court. Her litigation included challenging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s refusal to make emergency contraception available over the counter to women of all ages.
